Experience Europe’s biggest nature reserve in Vindelfjällens and the beautiful mountain areas of northern Sweden. Enjoy this nature-based active adventure mushing across the great expanse of Arctic wilderness that is Lapland. Driving your own dog team of 5-8 Alaskan huskies, with instruction and guiding coming from an experienced local musher, gives you true insight into this traditional form of transport and a great sense of satisfaction. Bonding with the ever-eager dogs who are bred to run will remain in your memory forever. January is the coldest but the most beautiful month. The silence and the light over the mountains are indescribable and just have to be experienced to be believed. The mountains and vastness with the sun light going down around 4 pm each day, crystal white snow reflecting the moon, stars, and northern light (and your head torch) makes for an unreal, surreal and almost spiritual experience. The tracks and the mountains appear untouched and we will likely have the wilderness to ourselves.

Day 1 Umnas
Meet the dogs with whom you will be working for the next week, and spend the night in a truly Swedish home.
Days 2-5 Mushing
Mush across Tarnasjon Lake, over mountain plateaux and through planes of snow. The experience of driving your own team of Alaskan huskies through the silent, remote and icy environment of Lapland will amaze you. Befriend your dogs and guide, and learn of Swedish sledding life and history.
Day 6 Ice fishing
A rest day today in the gorgeous Overstjuktan lodge, or perhaps try your hand at ice fishing under the advice of our local guide.
Day 7 Mushing
Spend your last day in the mountains mushing through lakes and even into a fairytale-like forest. Unharness your dogs and let them loose in the dog yard.
Day 8 Umnas
This morning we farewell the dogs who have looked after us so well this past week and head home having experienced an amazing dog sledding odyssey.

On 07 June the Australian Government issued an updated travel warning for East Timor strongly advising against travel to East Timor because of the extremely dangerous security situation. Australians in the country are advised to leave. The Travel Warning remains at Category 5 - Do Not Travel.
On Tuesday 07 June we have taken the decision to cancel the remainder of our East Timor trips scheduled to depart in 2006. All travellers will be notified and given the opportunity to transfer to another trip or obtain a full refund (land content only). We very much regret having to take this action and our thoughts and sympathies are with the people of East Timor during this troubled time.
We are confident of being able to resume our normal schedule of trips to East Timor in 2007 and hope that those travellers who have had to cancel their plans this year will travel with us to East Timor in 2007.
