There can be no tapestry of river life as fascinating and varied as the River Mekong. Indeed there can be no more striking a cultural contrast as that between the bustling Vietnam Delta and the tranquillity of Cambodia. We pass from the vibrant French colonial port of Saigon, now called Ho Chi Minh City, through the vast delta and travel along the main channel into the rich countryside of Cambodia. Our luxury river cruise boats have an ultra shallow draft enabling them to moor where other larger ships could not and are specially designed for inland water navigation in these regions. Connecting Saigon (Ho Chi Min City) with Angkor Wat via Phnom Penh, this is an undeniably unique marine experience that takes in life on and along the mighty Mekong in all its colourful glory.

Day 1 Arrive Ho Chi Minh City/ Embarkation My Tho
Begin the journey at My Tho, the hub of the Mekong Delta and board our luxury river cruiser - your home for the next week. Explore evergreen islands and the former Imperial residence, the An Kiet House.
Day 2 Cai Be to Vinh Long
See the floating market of Cai Be and also visit a French gothic cathedral. At Vinh Long explore a bonsai garden and a pottery factory, contrasting places making for an interesting excursion.
Day 3 Chau Doc/ Border Crossing
Take a local ferry down the canals and backwaters of Tan Chau. Visit a Cham tribal village by small boats and see the lives of those who work on a cat fish farm. Take a trishaw ride around Chau Doc and admire fine French-colonial buildings and see the bustling market.
Day 4 Phnom Penh
Experience the French charm of the Cambodian capital with old colonial architecture providing an attractive backdrop for busy cafes. Absorb the atmosphere surrounding Phnom Penh's impressive wats and learn of the city's tragic past.
Day 5 Phnom Penh/ Kampong Cham
Cruise through stunning scenery, watching the Mekong's timeless villages go by. Stop at the little-known Chong Koh silk weaving village to admire their fine crafts. Spend the afternoon visiting the wat, monastery and school of Peam Chi Kang village.
Day 6 Kampong Cham Area
Bask in the history of the pre-Angkorian temple, Wat Hanchey, then visit the unique Wat Nokor where a modern wat sits within the ruins of an ancient temple. Move on to see the eco village of Cheungkok and the Kampong Cham Orphanage, where fantastic work is done.
Day 7 Tonle River
Sail the interesting Tonle River where, as the river narrows, we feel we can almost touch the houses and people on either side. Taking a truly wonderful motorboat excursion into lakeside wetlands, we see a stunning variety of birdlife and giant fish traps reaching up to half a kilometre (or one third of a mile) long.
Day 8 Depart Tonle Sap
Attempt to view the shores from the middle of the vast Tonle Lake and watch as the profuse birdlife flies over head or swim through the water. Observe lives of the fishermen, living on floating villages on the lake.

On 07 June the Australian Government issued an updated travel warning for East Timor strongly advising against travel to East Timor because of the extremely dangerous security situation. Australians in the country are advised to leave. The Travel Warning remains at Category 5 - Do Not Travel.
On Tuesday 07 June we have taken the decision to cancel the remainder of our East Timor trips scheduled to depart in 2006. All travellers will be notified and given the opportunity to transfer to another trip or obtain a full refund (land content only). We very much regret having to take this action and our thoughts and sympathies are with the people of East Timor during this troubled time.
We are confident of being able to resume our normal schedule of trips to East Timor in 2007 and hope that those travellers who have had to cancel their plans this year will travel with us to East Timor in 2007.
