Relax and take in the lush, exotic scenery along the slow, meandering rivers virtually untouched by tourism. Glimpse orangutans in their native habitat and experience traditional Dayak lifestyles on our Kalimantan Jungle Cruise. Rivers are still the highways of Kalimantan. Run off and creeks flowing through the peat swamps widen into black water lakes where perfect reflections create a magical scene. Glimpse hornbills, eagles, kingfishers and perhaps even a proboscis monkey along the forested riversides. In Tumbang Malahoi, an old longhouse with magnificent tall ulin poles and its colourful sandung, bone house, tell of a culture of animist jungle inhabitants.

Day 1 Arrive Palangkaraya
Board our converted traditional Kalimantan river barge and join a world of relaxed comfort. The viewing deck provides a wonderful place for our first drink together on board, before we set off down the river.
Day 2 Borneo Orangutan Survival Rehabilitation Centre
Cruising a beautiful stretch of the river the boat and trees are clearly reflected in water that is darkened by tannins. Time is spent wildlife watching from the deck and observing the quiet local fishing activity occurring around us. Arriving at the Borneo Orangutan Survival Rehabilitation Centre presents the option to observe a group of orphaned orangutan babies the program is rehabilitating to the wild.
Day 3 River Cruising/ Traditional Dayak Village
A gorgeous morning climb of Mt Tangkiling for the energetic, is followed by a delicious breakfast whilst wildlife watching. Spot orangutans, macaques, elusive proboscis monkeys, gibbons, langurs and dramatic birdlife right off the side of the boat! This afternoon we are welcomed to a traditional village with a Dayak ceremony. Learn the ways of the locals and see them create their amazing crafts. Tonight, we spot nocturnal jungle dwellers on a night safari.
Day 4 Tumbang Malahoi Longhouse Village
This morning, fish with the locals in a black water lake, learning their canoeing skills and getting a taste for their way of life. Continuing up the river we pass long, sandy stretches and can admire the way the river curls away towards the hills. We have another opportunity to experience traditional Dayak life, observing their stilted family homes and learning about their faith and culture. Finally, spend a last evening on board the boat, out under the stars.
Day 5 Depart Palangkaraya
Unfortunately, the time has come to farewell our boat, disembark and be transferred to the airport. Time to continue on to your next journey, our river cruise a wonderful memory.

On 07 June the Australian Government issued an updated travel warning for East Timor strongly advising against travel to East Timor because of the extremely dangerous security situation. Australians in the country are advised to leave. The Travel Warning remains at Category 5 - Do Not Travel.
On Tuesday 07 June we have taken the decision to cancel the remainder of our East Timor trips scheduled to depart in 2006. All travellers will be notified and given the opportunity to transfer to another trip or obtain a full refund (land content only). We very much regret having to take this action and our thoughts and sympathies are with the people of East Timor during this troubled time.
We are confident of being able to resume our normal schedule of trips to East Timor in 2007 and hope that those travellers who have had to cancel their plans this year will travel with us to East Timor in 2007.
