Windmill History
Windmills have been on the site of the Windmill for over 400 years. The present structure of the Windmill dates originally from 1784 when Thomas Robinson was given the "baylif's" authority to build a new mill. The windmill sails worked until 1898 when, after storm damage, a gas turbine replaced them. The windmill finally stopped grinding corn in 1927 and gradually fell into disrepair. For the following 60 years, the windmill had a variety of uses including storing seed and newspaper distribution. The latest chapter in the Windmillss history was its purchase by Angela and Roland in 1997 who set about converting it to comfortable guest accommodation.
Location and Activities
Our Converted Windmill Accommodation is located in Scarborough, a town on the North Sea coast of North Yorkshire, England. Scarborough provides the perfect seaside holiday venue for people of all ages, with its safe beaches and numerous other attractions.
The older part of town, protected by a rocky headland, rims the harbour which has undergone major regeneration to include new pontoons and a pedestrian-friendly promenade with street lighting and seating. The ruins of Scarborough Castle adorn the hill and over-look the bay, the Grand Hotel, one of Britain's finest is a stately centre-piece to the town's architecture and a very healthy art and cultural scene add to Scarborough's appeal.

On 07 June the Australian Government issued an updated travel warning for East Timor strongly advising against travel to East Timor because of the extremely dangerous security situation. Australians in the country are advised to leave. The Travel Warning remains at Category 5 - Do Not Travel.
On Tuesday 07 June we have taken the decision to cancel the remainder of our East Timor trips scheduled to depart in 2006. All travellers will be notified and given the opportunity to transfer to another trip or obtain a full refund (land content only). We very much regret having to take this action and our thoughts and sympathies are with the people of East Timor during this troubled time.
We are confident of being able to resume our normal schedule of trips to East Timor in 2007 and hope that those travellers who have had to cancel their plans this year will travel with us to East Timor in 2007.
